Vladimir Guerrero Jr. is penciled in to start at third base when the Toronto Blue Jays play the Canadian Junior team in Saturday’s spring training action.
The 18-year-old has been one of the more intriguing prospects in the Blue Jays’ system since signing as an international free agent in 2015.
He had an impressive debut season with the Bluefield Blue Jays even as one of the youngest players in the Appalachian League, slashing .271/.359/.449 with eight home runs in 62 games. He also had just 35 strikeouts to his 33 walks — a noteworthy level of plate discipline for a young power-bat.
Prospect ranking experts took notice as he was named the Blue Jays top prospect by Baseball America for the 2017 season.
Guerrero Jr. will hit seventh in the lineup while last year’s second round pick Bo Bichette is on the bench for the Blue Jays.
You can watch the game on Sportsnet at 1:00 p.m. ET.
