Falling in the standings and playing without star Kyle Lowry, it’s a strange time for the Toronto Raptors. A disheartening loss to Russell Westbrook and the Oklahoma City Thunder on Thursday didn’t help things.
The Raptors fell 123-102 and head coach Dwane Casey was understandably frustrated after the loss.
“I want to apologize to our fans, everybody, for the way we played tonight,” Casey told media after the game. “The effort, the competitive spirit wasn’t there. That team came out and played like it was a championship game and we played like it was a middle-of-the-season game.”
With the Raptors taking a step back from their best season in franchise history last year, it’s fair to wonder about the job security of Casey.
That was a topic of discussion on The Jeff Blair Show Friday morning.
“You do reach a stage in a season, where a lot of people are frustrated with everybody,” said Sportsnet’s Michael Grange. “It would be almost unnatural if at some point during the last couple of months, when things have been pretty rocky, that there isn’t some voice in the dressing room, where sure, it’s not like coaching isn’t going to get discussed.”
