Bangalore: Australian off-spinner Nathan Lyon, who during the course of his eight-wicket haul in the first innings claimed Indian skipper Virat Kohli, had innocuously used a Dale Steyn quote to describe how important a dismissal it was. “He is obviously the head of the snake if you want to put it in Dale Steyn’s terms. So it’s quite pleasing to take Kohli’s wicket,” was all Lyon said.
Kohli, though, despite a great win on the day, wasn’t in a forgiving mood.

“A lot of people were talking about the head of the snake, but I think the snake did pretty well by itself. So it’s not just about one individual. I’m pretty happy if they keep focusing on the head of the snake, because a snake can sting from many directions. I think some people need to keep that in mind,” said Kohli, obviously very unhappy with Lyon’s comments. Kohli’s main contention was that it was a team game and he didn’t mind his failing as long as the team won. “I told the team only one thing, that we would win together and lose together. We will stick together as a team,” said Kohli.
The Indian captain was scathing of former Australian wicketkeeper Ian Healy’s comments too. Healy has been reported as having said he was losing respect for Kohli and the Indian skipper’s response was: “We’ve got 1.2 billion people in India. One person doesn’t make a difference to my life.”
