If MLB wants to cut down the time of games, it should pay attention to what Josh Donaldson did in a minor-league spring training affair on Friday.
After cranking a pitch over the fence in left field, the Toronto Blue Jays third baseman admired the ball’s trail as he slowly walked back to the dugout. He didn’t even round the bases.
Pretty boss, right?
But don’t worry, Donaldson wasn’t showing up the younger competition on the field.
The 31-year-old former American League MVP is getting over a strained right calf and likely didn’t need the aggravation of making the 360-foot trip around the bases. He’s progressing in his recovery, though, and says he’d be playing without restriction if the regular season began today.
Donaldson received some criticism on social media for Friday’s at-bat. Sean Allen, a University of Texas assistant baseball coach, posted a since-deleted tweet reported by CBS Sports that read: “This might be the worst video I have ever seen. So much disrespect to the game of baseball. Baseball gods will handle this.”
However, the Blue Jays slugger handled the situation admirably, and the two eventually hashed it out.
