Jose Bautista scratched from Blue Jays’ lineup vs. Tigers

Jose Bautista has been scratched from the Toronto Blue Jays lineup for Wednesday’s spring training game against the Detroit Tigers.

The 36-year-old was originally slated to start before a new Bautista-less lineup replaced the original less than a half hour later.

Bautista says there was no particular event when he hurt his back. Just the day to day baseball grind of long flights, early workouts, etc.

Bautista was expected to make his first appearance for the Blue Jays since returning from the World Baseball Classic, in which he was kept out of the lineup in the Dominican Republic’s final game against the USA due to lower back stiffness.

Prior to leaving for the WBC, Bautista was enjoying a great spring with the Blue Jays, boasting a .563 batting average with a pair of home runs and six RBI.
